![]() Their consultants have suggested the Schoeps Mk2 or the Josephson mics built on the MK221 capsule. Have been checking out piano recordings on the Internet, examples from the Schoeps and DPA websites, and comparison shootouts such as the excellent one from SoundPure. Would prefer a close mic technique and am open to either cardiods or omnis. Now have added a Millennia pre and want to use this with some small diaphragms to more accurately capture the inner detail. Have tried them in Blumlein, A/B, X/Y and other formats. The sound is also good but, despite their fine presence, they do not capture all of the "depth" or "middle" of the timbre. Currently am using AEA R84 mics with their RPQ pre. Have tried the Earthworks PM40 system and it was good but not ideal. ![]() The works are from the 18th century and are largely fast and vibrant. ![]() Am recording my Schimmel K189, a very bright German grand with an extremely complex timbre.
